The college of Co-operation, Banking & Management was established in 1981 as a constituent college of the Kerala Agricultural University .The College was set up in accordance with section 5of the KAU Act which provides for the establishment of a faculty of Co-operation. The mandate of the College is to undertake teaching, research and extension programmes in domains relevant and beneficial to the farming community such as Co-operatives, Banks, Commodity Board, Agri-business Organizations, Rural Development Organizations and other support service institutions.

 Accreditation by ICAR  

The Accreditation Board of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has accorded accreditation to the College on 25th August, 2004 upon the recommendation of the ICAR Peer Team and Education Division.

 Statutory Departments  

The college has 22 core faculty serving in four statutory departments viz., Co-operative Management, Development Economics, Rural Banking and Finance Management and Rural Marketing Management.


The research programmes of the College consist of PG research and Faculty research .The Faculty have been actively engaged in a number of research projects funded by internal and external agencies.


The College has been recognized as a resource centre by several national institutions for conducting training programmes, workshops, summer institutions and short term courses. Two National Level Summer Institutions in the area of Agricultural Marketing were sponsored by the ICAR. Besides ,two short courses ,one each in advance in Agricultural Project Planning and Management and Application of Econometric Methods in Agricultural Research and Management ,were also granted by the ICAR .The College has hosted many National events. Recently the College had the rare privilege of hosting the National seminar on Youth Co-operatives sponsored by the International Co-operative Alliance and National Co-operative Union of India in October 2008.


The College has organized a plethora of training programmes  for various target group of the Development Departments of the State Government, Co-operative  Banks ,NCERT ,Indo-German Reservoir Fisheries Project, ICDP, etc. The Faculty of the College conducted a couple of All India Training Programmes for the advanced Centre for Training in Plantation Crops. A three weeks, All India Refresher Course for VHSC teachers in Banking, sponsored by NCERT, was also Organized .The College has been organizing HRD programmes for the non teaching staff of the University.


The Faculty have been serving as resource persons for wide range of institutions for their training programmes. They have been deeply involved in the initiatives for the revitalization of non-performing PACB or PACS in Thrissur District. The services of the Faculty are regularly sought after by co-operatives, public and private sector undertakings for solving their operational, organizational and managerial problems .The College has provided consultancy services to Government of India Consultancy Organization-Ed.cil,Indo-German Reservoir Fisheries Project ,NCERT and the state Planning Board.
